I gess it was this dumsday " evangelium " I was caught by in Ukraine! Although I heard about sins and Jesus paying for the, which I read in the Bible about too and believ, it has been to much of dumsday theology too. As I've discovered not so long ago the congregation I was part of is part of Assembly of God.
I have nothing but respect for your research, but I daresay these crazy claims are being made at Bethel Redding – trips to heaven, etc.. & they are getting away with it!
William Branham spent lots of money on the things he cared about, and if people look at his death room, aka den, in his house in Arizona, they will see what he cared about.
People keep falling for this ridiculous stuff because they are ignorant about what the scriptures actually say. Most have never read much in the Bible. Healing in the N.T. does not look like what the stage ministers claim. The prophets you see in the Bible also do not look anything at all like what these claim prophets to be. I do not see a way out of this that does not involve actual in context Bible study. Believing preachers alone is how this mess began and how it just keeps continuing.
The biographer Frank Bartleman had an excellent work on what was right and wrong with Azusa and the ensuing spiritual effects. His work has been published under different names, I believe. The nuttiness of pentecostals is why I left to become an Anglican.
John, you finally focused on what has and does drive all of this, which is THE MAILING LIST. The whole focus of the meetings, magazines, etc, is to add more names for future mailings…fundraising appeal letters, notice of upcoming meetings…products/publications to sell and more. Some ministries will warn employees that they WILL have you prosecuted if you access/steal their list. Keep in mind the response rate of different mailings is what drives/stirs the directions ministries take. You should read fundraising/direct mail publications that cover what brings the best response rate of donations…heal your body and prosper you financially or feed hungry children in Detroit? (raising money to feed children in Rwanda or El Salvador generates income instead) I remember a radio consultant often told me of different ministries/preachers, "they will hug you neck and then KILL you for that mailing list!"
This is a really useful talk, John. Thank you. I recognise a number of issues that were still being promoted by the Apostolic Church in the UK in the 60s and 70s. These include the undue, if not obsessive, focus on the Second Coming, the continued practice of the 'five fold ministry' ie apostles, prophets etc, even after the AoG had made its statement on Latter Rain in 1949, and so on. It's so interesting to see how far back this junk goes. And scary to see how recently it was still being promoted in churches derived from Azusa Street. Likewise, seeing the links between the charismatic and the FGBMFI with the Shakarians et al….it's been a money spinner to beat all money spinners – make money while claiming poverty and deceiving the masses very successfully.
The practice of glossolalia (in doctrine) did NOT precede 1902. They believed they were practicing xenolalia. They didn’t invent the former until they went on missions trips and discovered that they could not in fact speak real, foreign languages. It was after this humiliation that they created the failsafe notion of “angelic tongues” to justify the embarrassment of their gibberish. Charles Sullivan and Charles Bosser are the leading scholars on this subject, and provide the most in-depth historical analysis.
John you have got to be kidding me! You mean to tell me that the high and mighty AoG published a magazine with this type of spiritualism foolishness? Im really beginning to think that Pentacostalism is a cult. My mother told me that they were off. OMG
The shoving money in the pockets thing is still practiced in some circles. In my old chur h it was called a first fruit offering. I had no idea my old pastor got tbat idea from Seymour. Wow nust …wow. These people are a bunch of crooks.
Good morning!
Appreciate your time and efforts from New Zealand 😊

I think I remember that William Seymour went on to say later that tongues had to be a actual language.

They love to scare people!
If that magazine still existed, they would have featured Cindy Jacobs, among other charlatans.
Thanks John!!
Its great to see someone shining a light on all this historic deception!

33:42 theres something more odd John: gospel means "good news".
How can you have "The (good news) of terrible incoming judgements"???
