I have never heard this story. It's highly interesting and should be much better known! It's an inspiring real life saga of faith overcoming many obstacles. It should be made into a movie! 😇 I am an atheist, although i was raised fundamentalist in a "Church of Christ" in the east San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles County. That church also started out in what probably had been a barn or stable. Later we got a more "refined" looking building. Both of our churches were very plain with no steeple or any other religious decorations. An Assembly of God church was very close to our house, although i only recall attending it once for a children's gathering of some sort. They had an adult emcee, a loud solo singing performance by a boy, loud choral singing, with loudspeakers and musical accompaniment not permitted in the C of C, and some sort of raffle to get prizes. To me at that time, such a church seemed too noisy and too "worldly" to be truly "spiritual". 😃 Because they were so noisy and seemed "undignified" and thus disrespectful to "God", "Pentecostals", aka "Holy Rollers" were looked down on by most outsiders, even though the noisy music, speaking in foreign tongues and other fascinating activities certainly seemed like more fun! 😇
Well well well. I believe that the whole movement is very very sketchy and there's a lot of documentary about it that's much worse than that including leadership not so much Seymour.
I think Seymour through all his suffering poor fella learned it well in the end that it was love most important.
I think the movement God allowed to happen to test to test the hearts of Christian and others the same. The fruit of that movement should tell you that it wasn't of God. However, it does not mean that there's not speaking in tongues and they're always was since acts all through the history of the ecclesia. It just wasn't prevalent. Also, it's not proof that you Don't have Holy Spirit in your life that's freaking ridiculous. That type of preaching is liars. I know many good believers some that speaking tongues and others that don't.
The charismatics leaders of the today and I have studied this for 40 years are one of the most elitest golostics devilish deceiving leaders in the movement bringing about the great deception in the last days. How many more dozens and dozens of liters have to fall from pride before people get it, but the whole leadership structure is rotten to the core. And now Mike bickel wants to come back from abusing girls 30 years ago this is called cover up culture and it will be exposed and is being exposed as Jesus says in the gospels. People in the movement that you give correction or warning or suggestions to Will try to kill the messenger and bite your finger off if you try to warn them. Reminds me of the lefties in America. The enemy has the same tactic in all his fields, slay the messenger change the narrative, gas light. I'm 67 years old kind of walk with the Lord for 44 plus years with The Lord doing deep Bible studies. And he started showing me this happening 30 years ago. This documentary was a very good but surface generally speaking summary. Just think of all the scriptural contradictory areas of this movement that don't line up to scripture and sound doctrine.

Wierd how they never tell you how Jim Crow laws started on the north in the 1830s, IE the Jim Crow car on trains. This was at a time when no such laws existed in the south. Blacks an whites lived along side each other, some as slaves an some as free men. More of the same "south bad" tired bullshit. I only found one mistake: you said there were two streams, one Unitarian and one Trinitarian — but that’s not quite right. It wasn’t Unitarian but what you might call Modalist, meaning that Jesus, the Father, and the Spirit are one. Unitarians are normally viewed as holding that the Father is separate from the Son and the Spirit. Besides that, a very well done video.

Interesting though, I would put the Prosperity Gospel under the Word of Faith movement, but maybe you see the Word of Faith as a subset of the Pentecostal movement?
You nee to reread the history. A Mexican man who was there as a boy, said that babies in their mother's arms had their arms spontaneously shot in the air when the Spirit of God Almighty manifested. The raising of arms to praise God Almighty did not import from Africa. The babies were not born in Africa, they were born from above.
