A sermon delivered by C. H. Spurgeon, Lord’s day morning, January 10th 1869. How well do you know yourself? Most of us try to …

  1. Luke 18:8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth

David Pawson, Minister and writer according to Wikipedia and died 2020, taught that the church needed reform rather than Revival.

How can they have Revival if they don't reform first?

The Revelation that Jesus gave to John notes that five of the seven churches that he addressed we're told to repent and obviously there's something meaningful here and later Jesus reveals that a church is a great Harlot and also her daughters and of course this is significant

  2. I'll always and forever be in Awe and Reverence of God. I think of Romans 2 too, with that Scripture in proverbs. The Holy Spirit's conviction is a good thing, and it's a sign of His that He still lives in us. Without it, I wouldn't even know the difference in other's ways, the world's ways, and my own ways in Light of God's Way and what He says. I've been struggling a little with my work, or my work environment, as the culture is anything but honest, and I'm finding it harder and harder to see anybody's job in such light, as our culture has made it a habit to rip people off, or their employer, as employees, too, have suffered unfairly with their employees. Just as much as a false doctrine, it's spreading in the church, too, and without the Holy Spirit, it isn't known. I know how to be honest, and walk with integrity, but it doesn't make it easy. It's like being honest will get someone punished at work, and have ya ever heard that phrase, "No good deed goes unpunished"? The psychology of this in view of the truth, it has me think of our Savior, who suffered the most from our mouths and hands. I follow a page on FB, 'The Daily Spurgeon', and it's amazing how you and them, or maybe the same, send things that can strike the head of the nail, and hit my situations and what I'm struggling with so close to home. I share these on FB, in hopes that more people are drawn to listen to a good message about our Lord, and thank you for what you do, as we do what we can, and however we can, to spread the Good News. Apart from Christ, as Spurgeon wasn't, is a rare voice that is still speaking in the world today because of God and people like you, and enjoy listening to his poetic sermons. God Bless You. I hope you and your family are doing well…

  3. Reflecting on the 12-step program self-assessment has me laughing out loud to myself.
And now these 30-plus years later it comes to mind that I can sum it up in one sentence that somebody once told me before I even started going to AA in 1989

" I never knew you drank until I saw you sober one day"

  4. So glad for and thank you that have brought this message to me in South Georgia for our times our becoming more stressful as days go by as I would be very happier with peace but no my government drops bombs. Shabbat Shalom to all.

  5. The 1985 merger between R.J. Reynolds (tobacco) and Nabisco Brands (food) was a major milestone, but it was the subsequent 1988 leveraged buyout (LBO) of the combined company that truly defined the "merger mania" era

Cultural Impact: The fierce bidding war between CEO F. Ross Johnson and KKR became the ultimate symbol of 1980s corporate greed and "excess

In 1839, the Daoguang Emperor of the Qing dynasty appealed to Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom to stop the illegal opium trade in China.

Laudanum (a tincture of opium dissolved in alcohol) could be purchased without a prescription from a variety of sources, including pharmacies, grocery stores, and even traveling hawkers.

There were no statutes preventing its sale or use in England until much later in the century. The first major step toward regulation didn't occur until the Pharmacy Act of 1868, which restricted the sale of "poisons" to registered chemists but still largely exempted patent medicines containing opium

  6. Maybe a metaphor for today based on spurgeon's teaching here would be for preachers to mine spurgeon's teachings as people today mine using technology for investment but wary of the source of guidance they rely on.

  7. 8:24…"the deflection and aberrations in the case of his own compass had been occasionally most remarkable"

Thoughts of Sir Thomas More, died 1535 and collaborator desiderata Erasmus, died 1536

Here was a combining of utopia with the praise of folly which continues today with men in their Pursuit of happiness

  8. 10:2510:34…"Spiritual traders, I speak to you this day, reminding you of the great audit which hastens on, and warning you lest you make a fair show for awhile, and then in the end come down with a crash. "

    Luke 20:17-18
"But Jesus looked directly at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’? / Everyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”

  9. 11:1811:24…"The drunkard, the blasphemer, the Sabbath-breaker, can it be that these people are right in their own eyes?"

    Short answer; YES!!

Today 15 March 2026 thinking about a video, 'Reasoable Doubt', I recently watched about a person incarcerated for murder in Wisconsin and now she is represented by the Wisconsin Justice movement and looking for any evidence to prove her innocence. Her closest friend who is interviewed on the video mentioned something to the investigators which they, not being aware of some of the strange ways that people that drink excessively are affected in their thinking, could possibly have some impact on jurors who would hear the testimony if it was allowed to be presented in the event of a retrial an appeal.

I am thinking to call the Wisconsin Justice movement and tell them to possibly look into that if it's of any use

  10. 21:5922:08…" O you who fondly dream that the broad road to destruction is the upward path to celestial bliss"

If correct as I understand that the religion of Islam teaches followers that they will and do achieve what might be called in Christian parlance heaven on Earth and if that is the case this statement of Spurgeon seems to describe the teaching exactly

  11. Some cross references for proverbs 16:2

    Jeremiah 17:10
" I, the LORD, search the heart; I examine the mind to reward a man according to his way, by what his deeds deserve."

    Proverbs 21:2
"All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs the heart."

    Psalm 139:23-24
" Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. / See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the way everlasting."

And a question about what John recorded at John 13:27

John 13:27 "And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly"

Alexander McLaren has a lot to say about this verse

Also the series The Chosen give us a lot of food for thought as to what led up to the action that Judas took

The six places in the King James Bible where we find the word thinketh

2 Samuel 18:27 "And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings."
Psalms 40:17. "But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God."
Proverbs 23:7. "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee."

1 Corinthians 10:12 "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall."

1 Corinthians 13:5 "Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;"

Philippians 3:4 "Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more"
