  3. The main person in the following movie was Nicky Cruz and I think he's still alive and I wonder what he thinks about Nicholas Cruz in the post following the post of the movie

    The Cross and the Switchblade.
    This 1970 film is a well-known Christian classic based on the 1963 autobiography of the same name by David Wilkerson.

    Nikolas Cruz is the mass murderer who carried out the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018. The incident resulted in the deaths of 14 students and three staff members, and injured 17 others.

    Posted here four of the 234 references to wisdom in the Bible
    The fourth posting is particularly interesting as to where wisdom can be found

    Proverbs 1:2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

    Proverbs 1:3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

    Proverbs 1:7¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Proverbs 1:20¶ Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets

  4. Amen. Thank You Lord for Your truth. I cringe to think where I would be without Your word:
    "If Your law had not been my delight, then I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have revived me" [Ps 119v92-93]

  5. Amen there are very few pastors today like Charles Spurgeon. They’re too afraid to say it like it is they’re more concerned with pleasing the congregation than pleasing God. Nothing is impossible with God.

  6. In his address, Spurgeon outlines four primary evils:

    Abounding Unbelief/Questioning of Fundamental Truth: He laments the rise of "modern thought" which questions the infallibility and final authority of the Scriptures, a shift from previous eras where debate centered on interpretation rather than the source itself. He notes a trend where individual "inner consciousness" was prioritized over "Thus saith the Lord".

    Superstition and Ritualism: Spurgeon saw a significant evil in the rise and spread of Ritualism (High Church Anglicanism), which he viewed as a legitimate offshoot of the Book of Common Prayer and a form of innate idolatry that offered gratification to the senses through ceremony and visible priests, rather than a spiritual walk with God.

    Want of Decision/Compromise: He criticizes a lack of backbone and a spirit of compromise among Christians and ministers regarding truth and error. He uses the metaphor of "sitting on the fence" and deplores the tendency to tone down stern doctrines (like the punishment of the impenitent) to please everyone, which he calls a "perilous experiment".

    Growing Worldliness and Drunkenness: He points to increasing extravagance, luxurious habits, and a craving for worldly amusements among professing Christians. Nationally, he highlights the "appalling" increase of drunkenness, especially among women, which he links to mischievous modern legislation allowing easier access to alcohol.

  7. My heart breaks when I see churches holding gatherings to watch a NFL football game and chili dinner, with a large screen TV in the sanctuary. Or doing "trunks for treats" on Halloween. My spirit is sad, the body of Christ should never do such things. I'm not throwing stones, I'm just grieving over how far the church has departed from her true calling. Punch and Judy/NFL games all one in the same.
