John examines the Azusa Street Revival by returning to the original newspapers, social conditions, and historical context …

  1. I grew up in a traditional Pentecostal church. Well before NAR had infiltrated everything. I can tell you their doctrines inside and out.

The way they whitewashed Azusa Street, Charles Fox Parham, etc makes me crazy. If you are gonna base your entire movement on something, you need to be honest about the details.

  2. The fact remains that God is sovereign over this earth. He can still heal people if it is His will to do so.
If all these people who say they have the healing gift would go to the hospitals and nursing homes to heal the sick that really need healing, they would confirm their gifts.

  3. John I really appreciate your knowledge from your intense research.
It’s eye opening to say the least.

My grandmother in 1976 warned me to not get involved— it’s not a healthy faith.
I didn’t listen and was sucked into the vacuum of charismania held captive by these unbiblical ideologies!

I gradually learned something is off waaaay off when I started reading the bible for myself and found NOTHING to uphold those teachings.

I left organized religion completely in 2016 after being berated by a pastor in a small group for my concerns regarding his interpretation.

After I started listening to your podcasts and getting the facts and foundation of how it all started THE LIGHT WENT ON and I saw the why behind everything I was told.

Thank you again for your time and devotion John!

  4. Honest reporting. The seeker (doubter)!being booted is so cultish and repeated today as ā€œtrue believersā€ refuse to acknowledge problems. This is their (that spirit’s) tactic – Galatians 4:17 (KJV) They zealously affect you, [but] not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.

  5. News flash guys – every Church has problems – go read the first chapters of revelation to the seven churches. People use this as an excuse to not seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of tongues as we see in the book of acts. Read about the stories of the great movements of Smith Wigglesworth and other incredible stories from the Welsh revival, and you'll come back, wanting more of the Holy Spirit war is baptism and wanting to see miracles.

I'd Venture to say that this guy doesn't even believe in the Holy Spirit baptism and probably thinks that tongues are not for today. And if that's you too, I don't care about arguing with you. I'm talking to people that believe and read the scripture. I wanna see what they read in scripture in real life.

  6. Greek philosophies and foreign mythologies were already being incorporated into translations at the councils from the third century onward. In the prologue of John 1, the word was changed to Jesus, pre-existing, and from this a three-part person, with the Holy Spirit, was made into GOD. All of this is unbiblical from the perspective of the Hebrew Holy Scriptures. Even Jesus quoted the Shema Yisrael, the singular GOD.

  7. God is not of confusion, rejection, and all-out chaos.

The Azuza street doesn't sound like a " spiritual revival of Jesus Christ.
It sounds like a false spirit was in there.

Thank you for revealing all of this.

I always heard Azuza Street was a powerful movement from the Lord.
    I know think otherwise.

  8. I just started listening, but we were at Bethel when Lou Engle and Bill Johnson started pushing the 100-year Azusa Street revival narrative. So many Bethelites went down to attend, including us, and it was like a glorified Bethel service in a stadium. Seriously no different – same band, same speakers, same grift. So much hype over nothing, but they always over promise and under deliver. They immediately move on to hyping up the next thing and no one seems to notice the cloud without rain – though admittedly clouds without rain are pretty common in Southern California. šŸ˜ They tell people what's going to happen and then tell them what did happen and people seem to but it because they have blind eyes and deaf ears. They're all showmen.

  9. As a former Oneness Pentecostal who has read over a couple dozen of Pentecostal Publishing House titles that covered Azusa Street, I can testify to the white-washing of the history from Parham, to Azusa, to Arroyo Seco and beyond. I have heard facts today that I have never heard. Thank you, John.

  10. John you can't say you won't give your opinion when you title it the dark side, tell the hidden stories of poor behaviour, admit you would have left if attending at the time, share that local believers watching on would think it is odd and not of God and then finish with "I'm not going to give my opinion" when you clearly did.
    Very clearly.
Which I happen to agree with. Just be bold enough to say it out loud.

  11. John, thank you for the work you have put into all your research. These videos, your guests, topics, and your way of putting things logically (rather than an appeal to emotions) have helped me sort out what I've experienced years ago when I was involved in Charismatic circles. I left 13 years ago, and I've been wondering what had happened to me while I was there. I've concluded that I was emotionally manipulated – abused due to my own naivety. I've been rebuilding solely on scripture and studying Critical Thinking. You are a great help.

  12. Brother John Collins I cannot tell you how well you put this together with the facts and how you presented it. And the key word is "well".

All that you presented here is diametric opposed to Paul's writings to the1 Corinthians chapter 14.

I'm 66 years old father of eight children, and in my twenties and thirties I attended a church on the fringe edge of the charismatic movement And I remember the talk of Toronto blessings and a couple people from the denomination I was from went there and then it spread down to Lakeland Florida carried by those same people who visited the Toronto airport Church. I've studied The leaders of that movement going back to the 40s as you describe the second wave. And I can tell you without a doubt that there's definitely a thread of dark spirit running through it, from the leaders, to the theology, to the practices. For the last 30 years after researching it back then in the late '90s and early 2000s, I've been telling people and warning people as the spirit leads me that it's a false apostolic, prophetic and teaching movement.

If anybody wants to see an incredible expose episode by episode documented they should view the excellent YouTube channel, called "lamp stand." Also, he has some very very good deep deep teachings. Not a lot on his channel but very challenging and convicting.

Bless you brother as you expose the coltish movement from the beginning up to the day. I will be sharing your video with others.
    Thank you.

    šŸ…±ļøThe Good Parts:
This video describes the AzusaSt Revival remarkably similar to the way I experienced the 11.11.2009 IHOPKC awakening revival for the following decade. As many of you know, I unequivocally stand firm on the belief that God did in fact pour out an authentic revival on 2009 IHOPKC which from the onset was highjacked by ruthlessly wicked MikeBickle et. al., perhaps in the same way AzusaSt. became hijacked by satanic nicolaitans who for the love of mammon seek to destroy the sheep for filthy lucre sake. I bear witness to multiple genuine moves of God which servants of satan crept in to destroy the anointing through cheating the Word-of-God rules of conduct. The Rev2v6 nicolaity servants of Satan are highly gifted in their ability to murder the pure acts of Holy Spirit. These demons do not cancel out what God does, but they do defile the testimony of the whole of the movements. This type of spiritual civil war inside the church because of grossly carnal leadership is a recurrent pattern I'm just sick of because it relentlessly makes war against the Matthew16v18 promise God gave.

  14. You could say I have drunk the koolaid but nevertheless you have not move the needle away from me believing Azusa was a true move of God. At best, you made me a little curious about news reports. There are hundreds of other first hand accounts of people documenting their lives changed including adults who witnessed events as children and swore by their testimonies into adulthood. We well know the news media then was just as apt to color a story to sell their news product as media outlets today are. Sure, consider their ā€œobjective inputā€ as one perspective, and certainly assume that during a great revival the excitement would generate a mess of sideshow dramas just because there were crowds as well as some preachers who probably got overly exuberant with all the attention. We don’t know all the facts about the sinner who got the boot. Unless you were there I would not judge a whole movement by one bad event. As for the pedophile preacher…it now appears hell is full of them…

  15. Frank Bartleman’s book/journal records much of this. I believe the movement was legit but like we see in 1 Corinthians you see mature and discerning need to guide and correct. Paul corrected and also instructed Timothy to do so.
    Frank bartleman. Check it out.

  16. Hmm… how about the Apostle Paul, who did indeed declare in 1 Cor. 14:18 "I thank God I speak in tongues more than you all, yet IN THE CHURCH I had rather speak five words with my understanding…"(?) So it's clear that he validated and valued speaking in tongues predominantly in his personal prayer life. Jesus told his disciples to go to Jerusalem and "wait until you are endued with power from on high," which was the day of Pentecost, and all the believers spoke in tongues, and every time thereafter when mention of "receiving the Holy Spirit" was made after repenting and receiving salvation in Christ, the new believers spoke in tongues. On the topic of miracles, signs and wonders, healings, deliverances, raising the dead, prophesying, etc., how about the ministries of Smith Wigglesworth, Kathryn Kuhlman, and John G. Lake? John G. Lake sent his students in Spokane, WA, to clear out cancer wards in hospitals and not to leave until the last one was healed, and they did it! Look them up. And they ALL preached that the gifts of healing and all 9 of the spiritual gifts were not only for today, but for EVERY believer! But they said the average believer is too lazy and selfish to actually surrender their carnal fleshly mindsets to have God move in and through their lives. Just because so many people in church are judgmental and opinionated, and faulty in our eyes, doesn't change God's Word from being true. Saying we were duped is a cop out and blaming God for what people do, not Him. He's either God and His Word is true or not. I know He is and His Word is true, and He isfaithful to those who trust in Him and who choose to be transformed by the renewing of their minds (Romans 12:2) by abiding in His Word and walking in the Spirit, not the flesh (Romans 8:1-13). God allows us to be tested, and so when we see error in the church, do we allow that to be our excuse to drop our beliefs and chuck the inheritance He's given us to win souls and glorify Him through our faith? Don't we belong to Him now and not ourselves? Because He bought us with the high price of the blood of Jesus. And Jesus was the model of who we're supposed to be. Just because some got off and let things go to their head, and/or allowed the enemy in to mess up their witness somehow doesn't mean we cave and start pointing the finger at other believers who need correction, instead of accusation and judgment. Didn't Jesus give a new commandment to love one another as He loved and forgave us? By giving His own life for us? Yet we judge and pat ourselves on the back in our own pride and self-righteousness, instead of humility and compassion recognizing and remembering where we have fallen from ourselves, and have forgotten the mercy and compassion He loved us and saved us with. "Mercy triumphs over judgment." God have mercy… thank God He still does, because we obviously still don't. That's the kind of revival I want to see.

  17. I attended a Pentecostal Bible college for 3 long years and graduated. They only glossed over the life of Charles Parham as some heroic founding father so-called. I met nobody there that even bothered researching the actual history surrounding this character. It's pathetic, to say the least.

  18. I’m glad you broke this down because I had only heard the revised version of Azusa street. How people would get off the train and before arriving would get healed and such. I never really heard the entire story or at least another version being this happened in 1906 and not ever really being in a Pentecostal church. I never really gave it much thought. Thanks
