This Pastor calling out on others is NOT preaching the gospel. The holy spirit has absolute jurisdiction on the method to reach men through the gospel. The bishop said nothing wrong. In delivering his sermon, there is something called cross-cultural communication. He was speaking with youth and simply used what they are familiar with to explain a spiritual principle. Even the Apostle Paul did this in Anthems (Acts 17: 22-34).
Religion will fight against this because they don't understand that the message is different from culture. The message is too powerful to be culturally bound. There is no particular formula for explaining the gospel. Hence, you can start from what people are used to in a cultural sphere and bring in the message of salvation. This is exactly what the bishop did. He knew his audience and what they likely were listening to, hence he made a jest of them not being "born again." Besides the song used although circular is not a "worthy song." Am very certain that a lot of persons in pastor Kesiena's church are used to the song and sang the same song.
Even Papa did many things that he had issues with, with the then-religious leaders that he met. Even Pastor Chris faced the same.
I love Pastor Kesiena, but his ground on the Bishop's message doesn't stand. However, his emphasis on spirituality must not be taken lightly because of a truth we do not live in a lawless kingdom as children of God.
In conclusion, his emphasis on Christians asking "where is it in the Bible is absurd." 2 Peter 1:19 The Bible remains a more sure word of guidance. Without it, you won't know if the spirit you are listening to is the Holy Spirit. Even the spirit will not ask you to do things outside the Word. The Berean Christians were more honourable than Thessalonica because they examined the message they heard from Paul with the Scriptures (Acts 17:11-12). Hence that statement is erroneous and subject to causing people to fall into error.
We must understand the difference between circular and gospel. Circular does not mean carnal. There are many circular things we do that are not carnal. What the Bible admonishes is to do is not to be carnal. We all sing circular songs such as “happy birthday to you…”. Let’s have some basic understanding.
