Hi Pastor Matt, Just want to know your thoughts on Ian Murray’s biography of Edwards published by Banner of Truth. I have noticed that you never mention this book in your recommendations on Edwards and was wondering your thoughts on it. I recently read it. Overall, I thought it was a good book and worth the read I thought it got bogged down in certain sections. Especially, in the multiple chapters on the communion controversy and his dismissal from his pastorate at Northampton. How does the biography you recommend in your video compare with Murray’s bio?
Thank you Pastor Matt. I have been looking for a video like this on JE. I have his major works but have not read them yet. I plan to follow your reading program. My family is looking for aPresbyterian . Church. If I lived in the Pittsburg area, I would join your church. I am in the north Dallas area. God Bless you sir.
May I also suggest "A Reader's Guide to the Major Writings of Jonathan Edwards" edited by Nathan A. Finn and Jeremy M. Kimble? It's published by Crossway. Thank you for your resourceful video.
Thank you Pator Matt for these recommendations. Cant wait to start studying Edwards. You and John Piper have been profound in my life nudging me to study Edwards.
Hey Matthew. Have you made any videos on the methods you use when studying the Bible and studying theological books and topics? And do you have a particular method of taking notes when you read theological books?
Resolutions Sinners in the hands of an angry God Heaven is a world of love Personal narrative (1740) The distinguishing marks of the work of the Spirit of God Miscellanies Jonathan Edwards – A Life (biography) A faithful narrative Sermons of Jonathan Edwards Religious affections The end for which God created the world The nature of true virtue
I am a Chinese Christian who lives in China currently. My day job is as an economics professor, and I am also a lay preacher. I wonder if this small group of Edwardsian fans also includes people like me whose native language is not English:)
I absolutely cannot believe this. I recently found your channel, and have become interested in Edwards. I'm starting a Spiritual Formation class soon and, to my utter and complete surprise, one of our books is based on Edwards' practices in prayer. So now I'm boning up on him via your channel, and I hope to read the new version of Joy soon! Thank you so much for your gentle yet uncompromising teaching.
Fantastic video! Additional tip, instead of reading the resolutions, read The Unwavering Resolve of Jonathan Edwards by Steven J. Lawson. It's not a long book and it studies the resolutions on a very concise way, while also adding a little bit of the context in which they were written. This would be my book to start! Thanks for the video! 😁🙌🏼
Thanks, Matthew. I had wondered just the other day if you'd done a video on this.
If it was up to Wolf, churches would still be closed in PA. Great summary about Edwards (no surprise!).

I actually told my wife yesterday, "I need to read some Jonathan Edwards." Great timing on this video!
