I question the proper honor, recognition given to the Body of Christ by todays Church as described at 1 Corinthians 11:29 "For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. "30 "That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died."
A long time Christian man I mentioned this to was surprised by the suggestion that we should recognize those who are 'following/seeking' to be one with the Body of Christ"
Colossians 1:18 "And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence"
Colossians 1:24 "Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church"
I grew up in the RC church and they possibly focus on the wafer at communion and possibly claim that Jesus is in you when you swallow a wafer. I never even tried to understand this or any of the teaching of the RC church.
Is it possible that this "step", as Spurgeon puts it, he failed to recognize and may have been a factor in his health and early passing?
It seems worth considering the meaning God intends by the words recorded at 1 Corinthians 11:29-30
