Thank you Luke for joining the podcast. There is much to say and ponder but two things I will point out. Joe Rigney did write the book Things of Earth because of Piper's lack of emphasis on enjoying the things of this world. He even writes on the "wartime lifestyle" gone bad in the book.
Secondly, Ardel's comment on the car was not that the car was too nice and he needed to explain that because of preachers having luxury because of the Prosperity gospel, but in fact the opposite. Piper's car was not nice as if it was virtuous to have less nice things. You see this in David Platt's book Radical, but the clear teaching of Scripture is enjoying the things of earth with hearts of gratitude to God (1 Timothy 4:1-5) while simultaneously not making them idols.
This is a good conversation. I think we have far more agreement than disagreement. With most we're probably talking past each other.
