Can this job be done without removing the wheels? Mine are fused on, and I need to replace a tube on one side. Perhaps that would be enough room to pull the shaft while I have one tire off?
Thank you so much for this video. I was getting the shuddering and lost most of the faster gears. Your video saved me so much time and money! Awesome stuff. Just fixed my “Bertha” and we are ready for the next snow storm.
That's exactly what my Ariens is doing. Hesitating, skipping etc, but I am not going to try this repair. I'll have it serviced by a pro shop. What sucks is, we just got about 1.5 feet of snow here in metropolitan Boston…Nor'easter, and maybe more coming in a couple of days. BAD timing for a friction disc to fail. I want to cry, lol.
Extremely informative video, thank you so much. My blower has just started skipping, but at regular intervals, so I suspect it's not the friction disk, but rather one of the gears or cogs. This video showed me everything I need to see inside the drive system. I'll have to wait for Spring to repair it; luckily, I was able to clear all of the snow today, and I hope this is the last snow we'll see this season.
Pretty good. But why did you grease the outside of the bearing seal/dust cover? If you removed one or both seals/dust covers, cleaned the bearing, regreased, then resealed, that would have given them some proper attention.
JB, I replaced a 4-year old friction disc today using the Ariens OEM part; followed your video instructions with the factory manual as a backup. During test afterward, the rubber completely separated from the disc base. I hope it was just a defective Ariens part (not happy about that!), and am waiting for the Oregon part from Amazon. Anyone else had similar experience with the OEM part?.
Did this job today in 1.5hr with OEM part. Video was all the education I needed. $30 and some time, very satisfying. Thanks for this great video! Decided to additionally replace the 13 year old hex shaft bearings since I had to remove them anyway for the job, just as preventative maintenance.
So….i left mine too long…has anyone made a video of replacing the plate that the rubber friction disc run against. The one that gets all messed and grooved up if you leave it too long
Sigh.. my Simplicity large frame blower is 25 years old and it's all original except for belts. It just snapped the differential lock cable so I guess this summer I'm going to have to go right through it in including the disc.
This was really a helpful video. I spent more time cleaning the machine then changing the disc. The actual disc change took about 30-40 minutes. Good tips here on what to grease and where to use anti seize. Thanks!
Why didn't you do the friction disc on the 1971 Snowblower? Asking for a friend that has a 1971 snowblower that just needed to replace the friction disc that had a May 1970 manufacturing date stamped inside of it.
Just did this today, watching this clip took the anxiety out of it. I live in the North East so we really don't get many snow storms. Probably 5-6 storms. My snow thrower is about 9 years old, my first real maintenance. It took about 2 hours (first time), but was really easy. Note: have plenty of paper towels handy. Anti seize gets everywhere.
You're the best! @Garagegear I have the sno-tek 24" ariens blower which is a little bit more simpler machine than the one in this video and your video was Amazing and worked perfectly for my machine. Saved me a lot of $, keep up the amazing videos!
anybody have trouble getting the hex shaft bearings off? one side came off no problem…the other seems stuck???? any tips to get that side off?…it's the right side…the side with the chain . can't get any further without getting this bearing off the hex shaft. any help??? please??? i tried PB Blaster…any other tricks?
Hi, love your videos. At the . At the end of the season the transmission was slipping so end of a bad winter in Massachusetts I was going to do this to my ariens. Removed the cover and found when spinning the wheel I heard a lot clicking and the gear would intermittently engage, then slip again and click again. Do you have a video for this problem? I already did the anti seeze on the wheel bushings at start of season and it worked well. The blower is about 10 yrs old, model 921038.
I was amazed at just how different my 11528 was to yours. Fortunately, I think mine was a bit simpler. Got me inspired to finally do the work on mine. Thank you.
Here is a LINK to the OREGON FRICTION DISC used on this Ariens Snowblower! Thank you for supporting the channel! https://amzn.to/3klHMfz

Over complicate it 😄
Would you get your easy fix vids out of the way from finding serious repairs please?

Thank you JB! I love your videos! You explain everything so well and your work is very thorough!

No way that’s snowblower 10 years old. It would have rust on it.

Thanks for the great video. Because of this I was able to replace my friction disc in one and a half hours. Appreciate you

Try sanding friction plate normally that gets you another year

Great video, but I did not see you put back the washer that came off. Where did that go?

Great video as always, but…..what is the point of smearing the 3 bolt flange bearing with grease? Those are sealed bearings.
Great info thank you for the help.

I have an Ariens 24 SHO with a dirt driveway and I find that i have to replace this disc every year. Its a bit frustrating.
Did you notice the friction shaft ene small gear is backwards.
At 5.44 the cog according to my blower is put on backwards and shaft wont to in the bearings far enough.
From NT, thanks bud!
