If Christian movies are actually about the God of the universe, shouldn’t they be better? This week I explore why Christian movies …

One time in church they played a short christian film. A group of people are stranded in a rainstorm on a road blocked by a flood. The traffic cop at the roadblock turns them back. They shelter at a roadside diner where the owner is Jesus. He first creeps everybody out by knowing their names and whole private life history. He talks to each one in a friendly but authoritative tone. A bunch of personal flashbacks but it's basically a sermon. There's a smug white businessman character who's coldly unimpressed, decides to attempt the crossing anyway, following the shady traffic cop, who then leads him to his death in the flood. The next day others are fine, their lives turned for the better. It's sunshine and birds chirping, and the diner has vanished.
Some gems of cringe-worthy lameness: 1. Jesus is not in disguise, no. He outright says he's Jesus and even has a name tag. 2. The diner is named "Last Chance Diner". 3. Cliche characters set up to be sermonized: troubled abused teen, couple with marital problems… 4. The cartoonishly shady traffic cop named DeVille… (Urgh!) 5. …who grins and makes the metal horns as he leads the guy to his doom. 6. All of these are in the trailer.
Movies should not be sermons. Sermons are for people who are already onboard and need further understanding/reconciliation. The movie, if you must make one, shouldn't be preaching at me and telling me what to think, it should SHOW me what the filmmaker thinks from an unexplored angle causing me to think as well. You can't tell anyone what to think, it doesn't work that way you have to convince them why they should think a certain way. The biggest problem with christain films is that the filmmakers think that "convincing" means just saying what they personally believe to be true. It's like trying to convince a gay atheist to believe in god by sighting the old testament as if that in itself was definitive proof.
If you ask me, It's A Wonderful Life is the absolute pinnacle of christian cinema. Not too preachy, has a good story, just subtle enough to be incredibly touching rather than cheesy. Also taking topics like depression seriously.
majority of movies paint this idea that Christain is somehow in the minority of religions. Which is so far from the truth they shot down a plane. (not to say people don't hate just because someone is Christan, but the majority of people to who this is marketed, ie Americans, have freedom of religion.) They browbeat you with this idea that without God you are worthless, which wow is a message that is not very good. You're supposed to teach us that we are worthy of love, not that without him we're nothing. Telling me to my face I'm a worthless person going to hell unless I do something isn't going to get me anywhere.
I believe that to me, (eventhough certain people may not agree with me on this point). I feel there's nothing wrong with watching christian movies. I try not to be judgemental and forgive me if I am, certain Christians may want to spend money on certain worldly movies , pornography and horror movies, and movies that have romantic nudity and using foul language. We've too busy being deceived watching movies with people hating and killing, letting the devil trying to manipulate the world. I pray, Father, forgive us, for we know not what we do or say.
• Please don't condemn before investigating!! We live in times now where everything is a lie! (SATAN runs this earth) Only truth there is left is the BIBLE (GOD'S WORD) I leave this comment here because I love you and want you to make it into heaven and not be eternally separated and cast into bottomless pit (fire of hell) for all the sins you can't pay yourself when judgement comes (when you die physically). God our Creator is Holy and perfect and can't be near sin. Study the Bible Brothers and Sisters! Shalom! Thus says the Lord: Cursed the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord.-Jeremiah 17:5-
Great commentary on the awful quality of Christian movies .Agree with all your comments .I have seen 1 or 2 that were okay w the story line but for the most part they are embarrasing to watch.
The gospel is not something that many ppl like. So yes Christian movies aren't going to be popular and all that you're saying. I'm sorry I feel like you're asking the Christians who made these movies to make movies to please the world.
And by classing other movies ungodly ppl have a problem with because it's not the message they want to see or hear it just shows that we don't really care about the truth and message behind these movies. Unlike these devil worshipping and clear prepoganda movies that we entertain that aren't good for our souls we watch these movies and love them because it doesn't feed our soul anything good.
Some of the movies you listed that had Christian based storylines yes are amazing and award winning but they are twisted and not entirely about GOD.
I do agree that the producers of Christian movies should step up and add more real life CHRISTIAN issues and WORLDLY issues that leads ppl to God on a daily in their plots but otherwise they are doing good and don't need to add no UNREALISTIC things to the movies as if we not trying to tell story.
Jesus wasn't liked by many so what males you think anything to do with God and strictly God ppl will not bash just the same.
I am sorry but to say "facing the Giants" was not a good movie is not accurate! It's a great movie! So was "Fireproof and Courageous". If you are a film maker and you can make great movies go ahead but you don't have to put down movies that other people have made to try to get people to see yours. The most important thing is the message. Please don't criticize others just make the movies God has called you to make!
I simply disagree I just kept on watching a movie about Allison's choice I believe it's called and I thought it was very well done so the acting is kind of garbage but the principle behind it was excellent Especially for someone or people who have experienced those things in their life and need gods forgiveness And the other Christian movie called courage I thought was fabulous
The history of the Bible is also one sided and the stories make no sense at all but that’s what makes God God. I’m not trying to convince anyone just thought I would comment. I share these movies with my kids and I also find them cheesy sometimes but I look at the message and I am blessed by them. Have a great day everyone.
I love Christians movies. it's better then watching people get murdered. Don't go watch the movies. NOthing is perfect. CHristian movies are a big hit. You are bord in your own life. God is great not you. C.S. Lewis loved God. You need to really do better homework. You must not of did well in college. I would rather have my grandchildren watch God's not Dead, then listen to you. God is more important then you are.
Why are Christian movies awful? Answer: Because it takes a really good LIAR and PRETENDER to put on a good ACT. Hollywood is full of liars and pretenders who put on a good act because they are fake. I'll just go ahead and watch genuine people putting on a mediocre act while telling an uplifting story.
I’m to believe Avatar is junk now? Over 2 and a half billion dollars in box office and now it’s considered junk. It is to laugh. People went to see that again and again and now they suddenly don’t like it? Not feeling that argument in the thesis. Ha! Ha!
Good points. It is ironic that many movie story are similar to Bibilical stories. Granted, in the case of the Garden of Eden leaving the Garden is viewed as a good thing.
This was a good movie, October Baby, Save a Life, and The Shake were like the best christian movies ever made. Most are awfully made and poorly executed. Bad acting, bad filming, bad editing, cheesy lines, cheese backdrops, back props, and cheesy words. It is because of the people filming either do not have the knowledge of how to film a successful movie or they don't have the budget, its probably both. Budget does affect alot.

The Devil’s demons will always feel that Christian movies are bad. Hater!!
Inspiring
You have SO ELOQUENTLY explained what I've been trying to say for years – thank you!
The natural expression of the Christian faith should & could come through pursuing excellence in filmmaking

The only Christian movie that I have seen that doesn't suck is the Book of Eli.
Perfection

A lot of Christian movies are great
Christians movies are the best ever. This man is very uneducated and don't knw his ass hole form a mole hill don't know God. God always wins.

I’m glad I’m not the only person that thinks Christian movies are shitty as fuck.
