  1. On 28th November 2007 I was diagnosed with advanced endocarditis (large bacterial growth inside my heart), it was a Friday evening when the most experienced heart surgeon in Britain came to my bed and said to me "You need an emergency operation, but your chances of surviving the operating table are extremely small!"
Confusion rose up inside me, I was supposed to be scared, but I felt nothing at all, no fear, nothing. So in my confusion I asked "What if I don't have the operation?"
"Your life expectancy is 10 days, 2 weeks absolute maximum!"
So I signed the consent forms. The next morning I was wheeled into a very large operating room with perhaps 20 people doing all sorts of different things, and they gave me gas and I was knocked out.
I'm not sure how long I was unconscious, maybe one, two or three days. About 2 weeks later same surgeon burst onto the ward and almost shouted "That went far better than any of us had expected!"
So eventually I realised that God had chosen to install that 'peace which passes understanding' which Paul wrote of. It continues to surprise me that problems which arise from time to time fail to upset me. Proverbs 3: 5&6 continues to prove it's value in my life

  2. Day glorious day it will be, when at last our Saviors face we will see. Come Lord Jesus. [edit]: one of my favorite C. Spurgeon messages.
"This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I have hope in Him" [Lam 3v21-24]
