2 Corinthians 9 gives it plainly. No twisting for fund raising there. Most Churches won't read these passages in relation to giving. Because it doesn't fit the traditional religious models.
To pay a tithe is not a sin. The bible speaks of Tithes and Offerings. In the New Testament the church was not commanded to pay a tithe. If you are able, pay more than 10% and give as the Lord has blessed and prospered you. Remember they had all things common. There were no needs in the church because they met one another's needs. Now it is a sin to see your brother in need and you do not help him, especially if you have the means and money.
