There are serious biblical problems with what is being taught and practised here, and Christians should test these things by Scripture rather than assuming that supernatural language, manifestations or claims of revelation prove that God is speaking.
First, where does Scripture teach this elaborate system of “breaker anointings,” “anti-destiny spirits,” “marine spirits,” ancestral embargoes, altars powering stagnation, legal holds, transferable fire, fresh grace and impartations? Demons are absolutely real, and Scripture teaches spiritual warfare, but that does not give us permission to invent an entire demonology that the apostles never taught. Paul gives extensive instruction concerning spiritual warfare in Ephesians 6:10–18, yet there is nothing there about discovering marine spirits, breaking ancestral altars or receiving a “breaker anointing.”
Even more concerning is the claim that “most sicknesses…are caused by spirit influences upon the bodies of men.”
Where does Scripture say most sickness is demonic? Scripture actually distinguishes ordinary sickness from demonic affliction (Matthew 4:24). Timothy had “often infirmities” and Paul recommended an ordinary remedy (1 Timothy 5:23). Epaphroditus was “sick nigh unto death” (Philippians 2:27), and Paul left Trophimus at Miletum sick (2 Timothy 4:20). Not every headache, illness or unexplained medical condition should be turned into a demon.
Yet in this service headaches and dizziness are subsequently associated with a “spirit of death,” an “angel of death” supposedly visiting families, and even a vision of a serpent moving on someone's head. This is precisely why such teaching can become dangerous. A preacher saying, “I don't know whether it has a medical name, but I'm ministering to you spiritually,” does not establish that a medical symptom has a demonic cause. A claim of revelation still has to be tested (1 John 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:21).
Then we encounter the familiar deliverance vocabulary of “marine spirits” and “legal access.” But where did Christ or His apostles teach believers that marine spirits constitute a particular class of demons from which Christians require specialised deliverance? Where does the New Testament teach that ancestral activity gives demons continuing “legal holds” over those who have been united to Christ? Paul says believers have already been “delivered…from the power of darkness, and…translated…into the kingdom of his dear Son” (Colossians 1:13), while Christ has triumphed over principalities and powers (Colossians 2:15).
The supposed impartation is equally troubling. The congregation is repeatedly told: “Take that fire,” “Take the grace,” “Take the anointing,” “I release the anointing,” and, explicitly, “This is an impartation.” Later someone is supposedly carrying a “healing anointing,” and Selman declares, “I release you into that office. Take that grace now. Take that fire now.”
But according to 1 Corinthians 12:11, it is the Holy Spirit who distributes spiritual gifts “to every man severally as he will.” Where does Scripture give a modern preacher an inventory of “grace,” “fire” and “anointing” that he can dispense to people on command?
Romans 1:11 cannot rescue this practice. Paul wanted to “impart…some spiritual gift” to strengthen the Roman Christians, but immediately explains in verse 12 that he means being “comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.” That is hardly a biblical basis for walking through a congregation shouting, “Take the fire! Take the anointing! Fresh grace!”
There is also the troubling prophecy to a young man that “if I don't pray for him, he will not finish December.” Think carefully about what such a statement does. The preacher becomes the person whose supernatural revelation discovered that you were about to die and whose intervention supposedly prevented your death. How can that claim even be tested? If the man survives, the prayer supposedly prevented the prophecy. If he dies, the prediction was supposedly correct. Scripture commands us to judge prophetic claims (1 Corinthians 14:29), not construct them so that virtually any outcome confirms the prophet.
The financial section should also concern Christians. Yes, Selman says giving should be voluntary and even warns people not to give emotionally; that part is commendable. But during a miracle service, while bank details are being displayed for the ministry's building project, people are told, “You can tie an expectation by faith. It is scriptural. So don't just send seeds.”
Where exactly does 2 Corinthians 8–9 teach Christians to attach a desired miracle or personal expectation to money they give? Paul teaches willing, cheerful generosity. God supplies believers so that they can “abound to every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8) and be enriched “unto all bountifulness”—that is, generosity (v.11). Paul does not turn an offering into a spiritual transaction in which a financial “seed” is tied by faith to a desired harvest.
This is especially significant because it matches the wider seed-faith system Selman teaches elsewhere. The language changes, but the mechanism remains: give a seed → attach faith/expectation → anticipate a corresponding supernatural outcome. That is not Paul's doctrine of Christian giving.
There is also an extraordinary emphasis on earthly advancement: “next levels,” “strategic men,” “divine connectors,” “men and women of influence,” “strategic alliances,” wealth and riches, building houses, international doors, career progress and increasing influence. The congregation even prays, “every help needed for the next level of my destiny, I receive,” followed by prayers for “divine connectors” and influential people.
And then we are back to Selman's recurring language of spiritual “forces”: “by wisdom and by the force of divine direction, I advance and I make progress.” Why does biblical Christianity continually have to be reconstructed into “forces,” “laws,” “dimensions,” “anointings,” “graces,” “impartations” and mechanisms for advancement? Scripture teaches God's providence, wisdom and guidance perfectly well without turning them into impersonal spiritual technologies.
The congregation is even instructed to address calendar months: “October, hear the word of the Lord. November, hear the word of the Lord. December, hear the word of the Lord. Bring favor to my life. Bring favor to my destiny.” Where did Jesus or the apostles ever teach believers to command months to deliver favour into their destiny? Why not simply pray as Scripture does: “Let the beauty [favour] of the LORD our God be upon us” (Psalm 90:17)?
Even Romans 8:26 is pressed into charismatic practice. While everyone is instructed to “pray in the spirit,” the passage about the Spirit helping our infirmities and interceding with “groanings which cannot be uttered” is invoked. But Romans 8:26 does not say that believers should speak in tongues over prayer requests. It says the Spirit Himself intercedes for us according to God's will. The text is being made to support a practice it never identifies.
None of this means every statement in the service is wrong. There are biblical statements about Christ, prayer, generosity, God's power, healing, resisting Satan, wisdom and dependence upon God. Selman even explicitly acknowledges medicine rather than treating medical science as the enemy. But biblical ingredients do not automatically make the resulting theological system biblical.
That is the central issue. Again and again the pattern is the same: a biblical truth is introduced, extra-biblical terminology is added, an entire spiritual mechanism is built around it, and then scattered Bible verses are used to validate the mechanism. That is not exegesis. Scripture should produce our doctrine; our doctrine should not be constructed first and then illustrated with Scripture.
Christians therefore need to ask a very simple question: Where did Christ and His apostles teach this system? Where are the marine spirits, anti-destiny spirits, breaker anointings, ancestral embargoes, transferable fire, financial seeds tied to expectations, spiritual legal holds, divine connectors and months commanded to bring favour?
If these things cannot be established from Scripture, repeatedly saying “the Lord showed me,” “I heard in my spirit,” “the Lord is ministering to me,” or “I release the anointing” cannot make them biblical.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.” — 1 John 4:1 “They received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” — Acts 17:11
The question is not whether a preacher sounds powerful, whether people fall down, whether someone identifies with a prophecy, or whether thousands shout Amen. The question is whether what is being taught can survive careful examination by the written Word of God.
