I doubt if God really cares about you being rich or poor. But he very much cares about you being righteous and holy. And there are many instances in the Bible where Jesus and the apostles lambasted the rich for their excesses and errors whereas there's no such for the poor.
@George, Have you ever wondered why the people (Bishop Oyedepo & Pastor Adeboye as two examples) who are regarded as fathers (and who also often acknowledge the likes of pastor Ibiyiomie as sons) nevrr come out to correct these blatant and very consequential doctrinal errors by their spiritual sons?
After all, Paul the apostle, constantly write epistles (which were commanded to be read for the entire church) to instruct, counsel, correct and even reprimand what he saw as either wrong consuct or false doctrines.
We also see epistles from others like Peter and James serving similar purposes.
Why do the modern day "Fathers" chose to stau silent whike their sons are wrecking havoc on the faith of many? Theu certainly cannot claim not to be aware of these teachihgs and the public reactions to them as we have, for example, seen Pastro Adeboye respond to the recent controversy that surrounded his claims about tithing and heaven etc.
In today's world, it's an anathema to be abjectly poor. However, we are to care for the poor as stated in James 1:27.
But the Christian is not to be pitied. One of the fruit of the regenerate human spirit is joy.
The fear of God also makes us wise. Jesus loves all men whether rich or poor but abject poverty does one no good in today's world and bears a false witness to the wisdom and power of the gospel to transform.
Jesus is not opposed to prosperity or its preaching or teaching. He is opposed to a pseudo-gospel perpetuated by some preachers who teach that the way to be rich is to give to the church and expect such monies to be multiplied by God. The Kingdom of God is bigger in scope than the church. God instituted the principle of seed time and harvest universally in all labours. Yet, they teach it as it pertains giving to the church only or majorly.
