Taking that verse out of Mathew is taking a verse that’s meant for after the church age in tribulation. It’s something to live by, but if you think you can lose salvation your contradicting Gods promise.
The statement about “enduring to the end” should not be turned into a doctrine that makes perseverance a method of earning salvation. Who has actually taught that “once saved, always saved” means you should go and live however you want? That is an assumption you have put into the argument. The fact that salvation is by grace does not mean that a Christian is free to live in sin. But neither does it mean that our works have the power to save us. The Scripture is very clear: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) So, if we are saved by grace through faith and not by works, why are you making our ability to endure to the end the basis upon which we are saved? Yes, Jesus said, “he that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:22), but that statement must be understood within the whole counsel of Scripture. It cannot be turned into a doctrine that says our endurance or works earn salvation and remember what happened with Cornelius. If salvation ultimately depended on man's works, why was the gospel preached to Cornelius and his household? Cornelius was described as devout, one who feared God, gave alms generously, and prayed continually (Acts 10:1–2). Yet Peter still had to preach the gospel to him. His good works did not save him. The issue is not whether a saved person should live anyhow. Of course not. The issue is what saves a person in the first place. Works are the fruit of salvation, not the price we pay for salvation. We do not obey in order to purchase salvation; we obey because we have received grace. So, they won't be off doing their own thing, living lives that are characterized by sin. After salvation, they won't be perfect. But the trajectory of their lives will have certainly changed. They'll have new desires & as a result will do good works for the Lord.
