  1. Notes: MAINTAINING THE FIRE OF GOD – DR. AROME OSAYI

    Introduction
    Theme:
The central theme of this sermon is the distinction between power and authority in the believer's life, the necessity of spiritual capital, and the call for believers to migrate into realms of intimacy with the Holy Spirit to effectively operate in God's power and divine government.

    Key Scriptures:

    Acts 1:8

    Luke 1:17

    Matthew 7:21–23

    1 Corinthians 6:17

    John 3:3

    Psalm 66:3

    Luke 10:19

    Purpose:
This teaching was delivered to stir up hunger for spiritual power, to clarify the difference between having power and operating under legitimate authority, and to urge believers to press into deeper intimacy with God and submission to divine government. The message also aimed to equip saints to confront demonic activity effectively and align with the will of God in this season of global harvest.

    Main Teachings
    1. The First Investment – Spiritual Capital
Acts 1:8 reveals that the first investment God makes in a believer is spiritual capital, not material or financial.

This spiritual capital is potential, much like crude oil, requiring refinement to yield various powerful expressions.

Dunamis (Greek: power) is described as installed capacity, similar to software downloaded to the human spirit.

Referenced 1 Corinthians 6:17: "He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him" – describing the mingled spirit reality.

    2. The Economy of the Mingled Spirit
The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force but a person who lives within the believer.

Relationship with Him can be more intimate than with a spouse.

Theological and experiential unity: At times, believers cannot distinguish between the Holy Spirit and their own spirit because of the deep fusion (mystical union).

    3. The Danger of Carnality and Neglect
Believers often ignore the Holy Spirit due to carnality—a focus on what can be perceived by the senses.

2 Corinthians 4:18 is cited: “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen…”.

The absence of prophetic correction leads to spiritual decline (example of Israel during the 430 years of silence before John the Baptist).

    4. The Restoration through Prophetic Voice
God began the restoration of Israel not with warfare but with prophetic ministry (Luke 1).

John the Baptist received the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way for Christ.

Spirit came first, then power — reinforcing Acts 1:8: power follows the Spirit.

    5. The Shortfall of John’s Ministry
John 10:41: “John did no miracle…” despite operating in the spirit of Elijah.

Many modern believers replicate this deficiency—speaking in tongues without demonstrating power.

    6. Power and Authority: Key Distinctions

    Power Authority
Based on ability Based on legitimacy (Matthew 21:23)
Noisy and dramatic Quiet and judicial
What God uses to conquer What God uses to govern (Psalm 66:3)
Received by the Holy Ghost Derived from intimacy with Christ
Can be wielded without relationship Only flows through authorised intimacy
Matthew 7:21–23 warns of using spiritual power without intimacy. Jesus calls them workers of anomia – “lawlessness, unauthorised acts”.

Power without authority is illegitimate — like a nurse performing surgery without a medical licence.

    7. Entry Into Power
Luke 4:14 outlines how Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit:

Step 1: Baptised with the Holy Spirit (Luke 3)

Step 2: Led by the Spirit into wilderness

Step 3: Engaged in long fasting and prayer

    Step 4: Defeated Satan

    Step 5: Returned in power

Long fasting and prayer are key to unlocking spiritual power.

    8. Entering the Kingdom of Heaven
John 3:3: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see (perceive) the kingdom of God.”

    Entry requires:

    Birth (regeneration) for perception

    Submission (obedience) for government

Matthew 7:21–23 is not about salvation but about submission to divine governance.

Being saved doesn’t guarantee being governed. True kingdom citizens allow their lives to be regulated by God’s commands.

    9. Authority Is Relationship-Based
Intimacy gives legitimacy for spiritual operations.

Many do mighty works, cast out devils, and prophesy — but lack intimacy with Jesus and therefore lack authority.

Authority is received by being governed.

Without divine approval, spiritual activity is illegitimate — even if it “works”.

    10. Satan Has Power, But No Authority
Luke 10:19: Satan has power, but not authority.

Authority belongs to those who are in intimate alignment with God.

Witchcraft is defined as the use of illegitimate authority.

    Illustrations and Examples
Crude oil analogy: Like spiritual capital, it must be refined.

Fanta & Coke mix: When mingled, it forms a new beverage — illustrating the mingled spirit.

Anesthetic nurse story: A nurse illegally performing successful surgeries — powerful but unauthorised.

Jesus and wilderness test: Demonstrated that power follows obedience and victory in testing.

Deliverance & intercession: Real deliverance identifies and removes Satan’s legal ground before attempting expulsion.

Witch neighbour story: Intense prayer removed spiritual legitimacy from a demonic neighbour.

Personal experiences: Recounted instructions from the Holy Spirit to not heal or not pray as a lesson in submission to authority.

    Practical Applications
Pursue intimacy with the Holy Spirit, not just power.

Engage in long fasts and prayers to refine spiritual capital into manifested power.

Do not ignore spiritual authority — submit to God's commands even when inconvenient.

Guard your life against carnality — live spiritually aware.

Be cautious of unauthorised ministry — power must flow from intimacy and approval.

When confronting darkness, ensure you've removed Satan's legal ground before releasing power.

Value the role of spiritual leadership and the prophetic voice — they bring correction and guidance.

Protect your consecration — maintain spiritual boundaries (e.g. personal holiness, discipline).

    Key Takeaways
Power is not enough; divine legitimacy matters more.

The Holy Spirit is a person; cultivating intimacy with Him transforms our spiritual lives.

Authority flows from relationship, not performance.

The mingled spirit reality makes intimacy with God deeply personal and experiential.

Fasting, prayer, and tests are non-negotiable steps into power.

Many operate like John — filled with the Spirit but lacking manifestation due to lack of refinement.

Jesus will reject even powerful ministers if they are not governed by His will.

True spiritual maturity is marked by submission to God’s rule, not just giftedness.

Deliverance begins with the removal of legal grounds that empower demonic claims.

Satan has power but no legal right over a surrendered, obedient believer.

    Conclusion
This message by Dr Apostle Arome Osayi is a sobering and empowering call to mature spiritual operation. It challenges believers to go beyond the shallow end of spiritual gifts and enter the deep waters of intimacy, legitimacy, and divine government. True revival, global harvest, and spiritual conquest will not come through zeal alone but through yielded lives governed by God. It is time to not only receive power but also to walk in authority.

  2. Thank you Apostle for this teaching. I now understand better what Jesus means by sons of lawlessness. The Holy Spirit gave me this verse unfortunately almost every time I went to one church to another in a new country. The churches seemed lively, full of people, so many good activities, programmes with great results but I sensed the Lord was not there. We need to pray for the Body of Christ to return to our first love.

  3. This accurately explains believers who retain stupid deeds and characters despite being born again… Because they chose not to be governed by the KINGDOM of HEAVEN… Thank You sir for this eye opening explanation… Your Source will not be polluted in Jesus name
