It's astonishing how you can have all the moves, but without the details of the hands and feet, and the amplitude of the arms and the stride, and the gestures with the head – well… it just falls flat compared to Cole's dancers in the screen version.
I'm reminded of how good Shirley MacLaine looked in the movie of SWEET CHARITY, but then when I saw Gwen Verdon on YouTube doing a couple of the numbers, she rather puts Shirley in the shade. Not in the same league for precision and flow of the dance.
The film overall was a flat dreary mess, but although this same number in the film is shot without any pizzazz whatsoever, the meticulous dancers on the screen leave these three on the ground. The show on the stage was pacy, rough sexy fun, but the film had none.
Wow. This is no where near as good as the movie. The middle chick doesn't compare to the movie's center dancer.
