You are my new favorite person for adding this! lol I needed this very badly for a dance class. I am suppose to choreograph a piece in the style of Jack Cole and was having problems finding material of his to learn from. So after that long rant, thank you. 🙂
From a movie called David and Bathsheba (1951). Gwen was an "uncredited dancer" doing the dance of the Seven Veils, choreographed, of course, by Jack Cole. It IS a little reminiscent of that original Star Trek episode with actress Susan-something all done up in Green and seductively dancing!
who is that at 1:33 and 1:39 ? i love her voice! i feel silly for not knowing actually, especially since they say her name but i can't hear it for the life of me.
At 1:33 and 1:39 (or close to it) while watching Betty Grable singing "I've Got A Crush On You", from "Three For The Show"
is Marge Champion, who co-starred with Betty (and , of course
her husband Gower,…and Jack Lemmon) in the Jack Cole
choreographed film. A fun film to see.
When I saw Mitzi Gaynor dancing to "I Don't Care" was the 1st time I heard of Jack Cole .
Reminded me of Igor Moiseyev's Dance of the Kalmyk, the animinalism of the birds, no mistaking the noise for the signal, pure communication.
Unfortunately, the documentary filmmaker and the proposed book writer are not longer involved in this project – our event was in 2008 – now one has passed away and the other is ill….
This is excellent. I review dance history in my workshops, but cannot cover individual dance leaders and innovators in great depth. This video is wonderful.💖
Jack Cole danced with Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn's company (Denishawn), which toured Asia in the 1920's, also had a number of quasi-Asian dances in their repertory. That's where he got the Asian-inspired arm and head movements that made their way, through him, into the Jazz Dance movement vocabulary in the 1940's-50's.

looks so good, Annette – we are all waiting for the finished documentary. This story must be told!

No, the doc is not out yet. Needs more funding! Believe me, when it's ready, DO40 will publicize it!
