It indeed showed that even though we are close to Jesus, that doesn't mean we won't know Pain, Sorrow or Grief because even Jesus passed through this, He knew hunger as the scripture says. This also reveal more that beyond the message of Christ is the miracle worker which He is, know so much well that trials, tribulations, pain and perils will come.
