In Christianity, prayer can be both a thanksgiving for God's goodness and a cry for God's help. Method and language matter less than openness and honesty, since prayer should be a conversation between you and God.

Step 1: Ask God to be with you
Start by asking God to be with you.

Step 2: Give thanks
Recall those things for which you are most grateful.

Tip
You may express thanks for your family and health or much smaller things, like the meal you just shared with a friend or the joy you felt at seeing the sun after a rainstorm.

Step 3: Replay events
Replay the events of the day or past several days, almost like a movie, taking note of where you accepted Jesus’s invitation and where you didn't.

Tip
A good time to pray is often at night, when things are usually calmer and you can look back on the day that’s just come to a close.

Step 4: Pray for others
Think of other people you want to pray for.

Step 5: Pray for yourself
Do not hesitate to pray for yourself by requesting help from Jesus.

Step 6: Ask for forgiveness
Ask for forgiveness for your sins.

Step 7: Ask for the grace of God
Ask for the grace of God to accompany you the next day.

Did You Know?
In a poll conducted by U.S. News and World Report and Beliefnet.com, 75.8 percent of Christians said they feel it helps when someone prays for them.

  1. Hey thanks for the help. I’m trying to be christian on my own really. My mom and dad are the best people you can meet but they don’t practice religion. Just like the video, food on my table, friends and family. And of cores god himself! 🙂

    • @mary doe Hi Mary, I have been trying to locate this very subject in the bible, if you could tell me where to find it I would be most grateful. I know the verses where Jesus tells his disciples to Pray the Lords Pray but I haven’t found the part where he says that this is only a pray for the Jews and that christians should pray another way….. if you could tell me those verses I would be most grateful. Thank you in advance and Gob Bless

    • Jesus was teaching his disciples who were JEWS to pray “Our Father who art in heaven” This not the prayer of Christians who must honor the Lamb of God (Christ) whose blood washes away our sins. Christ said ” no one goes to the Father except through the Son (me)

    • if you want to learn how to pray the way Jesus taught turn in your bible to Luke 11:1-4. In this passage the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray and that’s were Jesus did.

  2. 5″And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words…

  3. I seriously hope you would take more than five minutes and remember that Christianity is a lifestyle that we live every day not just on Christmas and Easter and not just on Sunday every day when God has giving you grace you are to live like a Christian

  4. It is hard to be a christian on my own. My whole family doesn’t believe and i really cant go to church because my parents won’t allow me to do that. I hope that if i try the best i can i could be forgiven for my sins and actions.

    • @Edvin S and everyone else on this comment, God sees and understands all of yalls struggles and loves y’all all for it. Just keep praying and having faith in Jesus Christ who paid for your sin aslong as your faith is with him. This will all be apart of yalls testimony in the future and your faith could also lead your families to him. you never know what Gods will is for your life just continue to trust in him💯

    • m e h Oooh I’ve been struggling the same thing with you. I thank God that He fought for me. It was really a hard decision to choose God over what your parents wants – to stop being a Christian. My parents were always angry at me and they almost kicked me out of our house. It was one of the worst times in my life so far. But God was my strength and shield and i know He is yours too. So keep on fighting for and with God. You can’t force them to believe and receive Jesus in their life, but you can pray for them, it’s the best and most powerful thing to do. God bless youu

  5. Thank u i pray in the day. But I pray at night now. Thank you it really helps. Been a Christian all my life. An got baptized at 16 years old.

  6. I was wondering if you could just pray to thank God for all he has given you, and not only when you are in trouble. And would it be exact same or different. Also do you have to be baptized to pray and read the bible ?

  7. 1.) Ask God to be with you
    2.) Express thanks
3.) Where did u accept and not accept Jesus into your life
4.) People you want to pray for
    5.)pray for yourself
6.)ask for forgiveness for your sins
7.)ask for the grace of God

  8. What about the Lords Pray? Isn’t that enough? as the Lord God knows what we seek even before we ask it, so to me the Lords Pray is enough as the Bible says. And to not elaborate or pinpoint my wishes as he already knows what is most important and what I’m thankful for…..
