LYRICS:

1. Oh! I'd like to go back to that Old Country Church,
And to hear the songs of praise. (songs of praise)
How the people would sing, it would make the Heavens ring,
At that Old (at that Old) Country Church.
CHORUS 1:

Shall we gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river.
Gather with the saints at the river that flows by the throne of God.

2. Oh, I'll never forget at that Old Country Church,
how the glory of the Lord came down. (It came down)
And the children would smile, as they shouted down the aisle,
Of that Old (of that Old) Country Church.

CHORUS 2:

In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.
In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.

3. Then on Sunday to see all my friends so dear to me
At that Old Country Church. (Country Church)
When it came time for prayer, ev'rybody would be there
At that Old (at that Old) Country Church.

CHORUS 3:

Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms.
Leaning, leaning, leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

4. Now the years have gone by and so many have died,
At that Old— Country Church (Country Church)
But they're on the other shore, and they'll sing forevermore,
As they did at that Old Country Church.

CHORUS 4:

I'm redeemed by love divine. Glory, glory, Christ is mine.
All to Him I now resign. I have been redeemed.

  1. You can’t help but sing along as you watch the happy faces singing praises to our Lord and our ability to worship as we please. Amen!

    • +Schmuelsons Reidl My condolences for your loss. My parents are both gone, but definitely not forgotten. I’m pleased that you spend so much time with him before he passed. I wish I would have spent more time with my parents than I did. Different time and circumstances though. I was fresh home from Vietnam and the Army when Dad left us, because of his second ( and fatal ) bout with cancer. Before he contracted cancer the 2nd time, is when I could have spent time with him, getting to know him better and seeing if I could get him to talk about his time in the service, maybe do some fishing & hunting with him, but I didn’t. After Vietnam, I became a drunk and druggie, for many reasons, that I needn’t go into. Sure wish I could go back in time! Thanks for your nice reply. God Bless and be with you and your family.

    • @TattooedEagle Thanks for your kind words. You’ve been encouraging too. I guess this song describes what people says that in dying we steps into eternity. Nothing is more comforting as a fight fought well to the end. Surely we’ll meet them all ‘over yonder’, happy and joyful just like at that old country church, even better. God bless you and your family too.

    • +TattooedEagle You're absolutely right. My father passed away last September, a great man, was a missionary in Papua New Guinea for years. He retired a few years ago. He only lived his full life with us every holiday we had, for only 16 month before he was diagnosed with brain cancer and died 6 months later. I feel the lost but knowing that he had fought a good fight till the end I can thank God for his early departure, to a place he deserved, an eternal rest, comfort and joy. The lyrics of this song comforted us so much, in fact we played this video during our gathering after the funeral. It was a mixed feeling of loss and sadness, but more of joy and gratefulness that as the song says,..”But they’re on the other shore, Where they’ll sing forever more, As they did at that old country church.”; It was a real comfort and joy to listen to this songs. God bless you.

  2. At about the 1:44 mark you have three of the greatest bass singers ever on the screen together. Rex Nelon, George Younce and JD Sumner. My oh my what a treat to hear them together on this song.

  3. Oh I’d like to go back
    To that old country church
To hear the songs of praise (songs of praise)
    How the people would sing
It would make the rafters ring
At that old, at that old country church

Shall we gather at the river
    The beautiful, the beautiful river
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows from the throne of God

    Oh I’ll never forget
    At that old country church
How the Glory of the Lord came down
    And the children would smile
As they shouted down the aisle
Of that old, of that old country church

In the sweet bye and bye
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
In the sweet bye and bye
We shall meet on that beautiful shore

    Then on Sunday I’d see
All my friends dear to me
    At that old country church
When we’d kneel down to prayer
    Everybody would be there
    At that old country church

    Leaning (leaning), leaning (I’m leaning)
Safe and secure from all alarm
Leaning (leaning leaning), leaning (I’m leaning)
    Leaning on the everlasting arm

Now the years have gone by
    And so many have died
    At that old country church
But they’re on the other shore
    Where they’ll sing forever more
As they did at that old country church

    REFRAIN:
I’m redeemed (Oh I’m redeemed) by Love Divine (by Love Divine)
Oh glory glory (Christ is mine), Christ is mine (Christ is mine)
Oh to Him (Oh to him) I now resign (I now resign)
(I have been) I have been redeemed!

    (Repeat Refrain)

    At that old country church

    (Repeat Refrain X2)

    At that old country church
