Tim has a lot of great views about the danger of Christian nationalism but I’m not sure the answer is embracing Christian progressiveness. Real Christianity stands on its own in my opinion
I dont know how anybody looks at god and wants to worship a "father" who would let any of his children burn in hell for eternity let alone starve to death or be abused in this life. Also, what father orders some children to kill his other children but save the little girls to use as sex slaves? This is sick!!
God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If you are changing how you interpret the Word based on culture, you are not following the Lord. Claiming to be Christian and claiming to speak on behalf of the Word, and then affirming sin, is leading you on the wide path. And sadly, you take people with you.
I love you, Ruslan. You’re so kind and patient. I just can’t listen anymore. This man, who I’m sure is a nice man, is just so frustrating to listen to. He keeps getting frustrated with Ruslan and is not interested in having an open dialogue. 😮
He nailed the entire argument for me with this one thing.
Christian negotiate with the text depending on the context they are in. I think the one universal truth is no one but God knows. We are all doing our best with what has been given to us. The moment you think you know it all you meet someone else that redefines what you think you know about God. And that’s what makes Him God
Paul didn’t negotiate or come up with new laws away from the text, he pointed to the text and said gentiles won’t be held to a higher standard than Noah.
Live and let live. To put another way, the cornerstone to christianity is free will. If you dont have it, there is no sin . You must have free will to live your life. But christians want to violate the relationship to god and one person and force others to behave a certain way.
Matthew 5:32 "But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
Obviously, the opposite should also be true, but… in regards to accepting the remarriage of someone who is not widowed, they are committing adultery… and so is the person that they marry. It doesn't say if the other person cheated on you when you got divorced that it isn't adultery for them to remarry. It doesn't say that divorce is allowed due to abuse. So… yes, Christians are *still* reinterpreting the Bible even today, looking to the Holy Spirit for guidance. And Tim's point about the shellfish being meant as an analogy for accepting Gentiles into the Church is correct. The dream was meant to help Paul accept his ministry to reach out to and teach the Gentiles, not to contradict the Old Testament law about the eating of shellfish. The dream was using something that the Old Testament.
As an aside, what are we to make of Numbers 5:11-31?
I have been in just about every type of Christ following church around LDS,JW, Baptist, Pentecostal,SDA,etc.and most ( except JW) believe in Jesus you will be saved… which is not true!
CLEARLY I am very late to this party BUT … I get that Tim doesn’t want to exclude the queer (his words) community from salvation, but doing it this way is not loving. He is letting them believe a lie, that God is not concerned with their sin. God wants all of us to be in relation with Him BUT also to pursue holiness. To call a sin not a sin is just putting a block on achieving full communion with the Lord. If he had a friend that was cheating their spouse, would he be ok with that?
My sister was lesbian (now deceased). She came out in 2000 when I had been a Christian for about 13 years. I told God “I can’t alienate my only sister.” I treated her the same as always and just tried to represent the love that God has for all of us. However, in the 23 years she was seeking a same sex partner, she was frequently not happy, had a very hard time finding a woman that didn’t cheat (they all seemed to want to “try out” every available lesbian around), regretted not having children and even said she should look for a male partner. She eventually died of an illness and was not happy at the end of her life. I told her the Gospel and can only hope that she chose God in the end.

The racism to compare lgbt to segregation is wild. Absolutely wild. I felt sick the entire time due to the ignorance of it all.
I absolutely love @thenewevangelical

I love you Tim, BUT, the story of Onan is in Genesis 38… and I love that young people like yourselves are talking about God's Word!
Ruslan, you knocked this one out of the park!!
12:25 …. "literal Sabbath" means what?
