However, giving an offering or sowing into a ministry can be a work of faith on your part. Putting action to your trust in God and trusting Him to return it to you as He sees fit. It's only a sin on your part if you are trying to manipulate God into doing something which isn't within His will. Trusting God to fulfill His promises and do something within His will such as commanding healing, deliverance, freedom, etc. in Jesus' name is not attempting to manipulate God because the Bible literally tells us to do it. Anyone telling you otherwise is deceived in their unbelief and lack of faith and making excuses as to why they don't do what Jesus commands us. Don't ever let someone tell you the Bible doesn't mean what it clearly says or why you don't have to do what Jesus commands. He is the same today, then, and ever will be, so His will for His followers is the same as it was when He was teaching the disciples.
Giving does do all of those things though, in the bible it talks about your gifts being returned to you multiplied. People using that verse as an excuse for you to give to them, however, that's a different story.
God uses money and other things of obedience to stretch your faith. The pastor neglects to mention that. One part of scripture used to teach this principal of giving is where the prophet Elijah, I think, was sent to a woman who only had a little food left and she was asked to cook that last meal for the prophet first. Giving and receiving is miss understood today because many pretenders use the devil's version to get your money by working you up in emotions to get. This is why it is very important to discern the spirits. I was one time at a revival at my church and a guest evangelist said God is telling some should give $300 when offerings was taken, something moved in my spirit and I hesitated cause I had less than three hundred in my account; well I took an envelope anyway knowing that spirit move was from Him, I intended to pay it later as I got it. God wanted obedience and wanted me to know I could trust Him, later the IRS sent me $300 extra saying I had filled out my taxes wrong and deserved more. God knew where that three hundred was coming from. Can acts of obedience and faith also be apart of tearing down strongholds and deliverance, you betcha, we are in a war after all. Do it for the love of God.
