A camp horse that's used to being handled by lots of kids wouldnt run away from them…..maybe just enough to escape being caught while they stuffed their face on fresh grass. Horses don't stray far from home if it's a peaceful one, anyway. But I suppose a lazy horse that sticks around wouldn't make a good story….
