Gripping drama and mystery with twists: Spoiler ahead: The last scene where the girl’s mother essentially admitting killing her grandchild is not believable for several reasons but makes for big drama. I can ignore that last emotion-grabbing sensationalist big twist (license with reality), but that leaves a bad taste in the mouth and I reduce the rating from a 5 to a 4 because of that. Plus I’d like the writers to resolve what the Bishop and Amish boyfriend respond.

Good movie, kept my interest! Great acting role by the female lawyer (it was great seeing her in a role other than law and order, she actually acted human and smiled in this movie) I had my suspicion about a rape by the dad but I was wrong… As religious as this young Amish girl is, she would not have had a sexual relationship with an outsider … I suspected someone had taken the baby and wrapped him, and suspected the girl's mother after finding out that she sent her daughter into the city to visit her brother without her husband's knowledge
I find that. mother very selfish- her confession at the end really burdened the poor lawyer, Why did she felt the need to tell her that the real criminal got away with murder and burden the one who helped her daughter? really cruel for an Amish….
Saying the mother did it was not what I was expecting! I didn't see that coming at all! Great movie. I do wonder, though, why Katy wasn't shunned for having relations outside of marriage, oh, and a baby. Jacob was shunned for less egregious issues.
Based upon Katie fainting and wake seeing no baby and the emotional family issues, I had suspected the mother of taking the baby. The ending was no surprise to me. However, based upon what the mother said at the end, even though the baby was dying, seeing that the mother took it upon herself to deliver the baby secretly, should we conclude that he died shortly after birth, or that she assisted in the death of the baby, wrapped it up, and placed it in the water after the death? Katie's brother saying that the Amish are not proud and not being violent (paraphrasing), in my opinion and the knowledge of various human behaviour, all are capable of murder/violence, given the circumstances. Depending on the circumstances and the individual's mental status, he or she might not be aware of what they have done, or might not have been taught right from wrong (being mentally challenged in some form). Depending on one's moral standard and choice, an individual in their full mental capacity might be committed to not taking the life of another. Watching the father's behaviour, one sees he was full of pride; otherwise, he would not have banished his son and forbidden the family to talk about him. I'm not bashing or judging the Amish, but giving my opinion on this story, and based on my exposure to various people of different faiths and backgrounds. "If I don't know and never met you, don't take it personally if you believe you don't fit the profile."
