  1. Cool. That was Little Richard on the swing strewn with flowers. "Keep On Truckin'" was a number one hit for Eddie Kendricks in 1973. It was his biggest hit as a solo artist. Eddie Kendricks was a former member of The Temptations and he added a subtle dig against them in the lyrics. The instrumentals to the song remind me of "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder. Keep On Truckin' was also the name of an underground cartoon by Robert Crumb built around a character posed leaning back and stepping forward putting his big left foot out front. In today's terms that image became a popular meme that was put on T-shirts and made into stickers and the like in the seventies. I half think the joke behind it was that "trucking" was meant as a substitute for another word that rhymed with it but that couldn't be said aloud in polite company back then. Eddie Kendricks also enjoyed success with the disco pop song "Boogie Down" and the dance club favorite "Girl You Need a Change of Mind". But perhaps start with his work with The Temptations, where he sang lead on such classics as "The Way You Do the Things You Do", "The Girl's Alright With Me", "Get Ready", and "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)".
