I’ve loved horror movies since I was 5. I think back then it was because I liked the thrill and being scared. I thought it was fun. As an adult I still love it for that reason, but I do find myself taking mental notes as a just in case situation and what would I do or how I’d handle it. I also feel as though it’s the best genre of movies to get that escape from reality.
Dude I think about this every time I watch DGG Halloween trilogy or Scream for the countless time. All the blood and gore. I dont think some of these horror flicks are meant to be comfort food for the soul… lol
SAW III – “Will you forgive the one responsible for killing your son in a drunk driving accident or will you indulge in your obsession to exact your revenge?” I hope to never experience that but it does make me wonder how I would handle that situation. We see Jeff and I understand why he is so hesitant and unwilling but comes to his senses at the same time. I also ask myself what would I do in that situation. Could I cut my own eye to get a key that will save my life? Could I face my fears? Spiral From the Book of SAW – the marionette trap. Symbolic of a pig (cop) thinking they are in control pulling the strings, pulling the trigger. A roller coaster ride of thrills. John Kramer/Jigsaw having a philosophy that is so interesting you could almost fall into a state of psychosis, Amanda Young sure did. SAW III – “Death is a surprise party, unless of course you are already dead on the inside.” The list goes on and on but we love horror for a multitude of reasons and no other film genre quite taps into these reasons. That’s why we love horror so much it gives us what nothing else offers. Also, side note but horror has so much movie memorabilia. For us collectors out there it’s great for that alone. Not too many movie genres have stuff like that. Only a few action movies have merchandise. Super hero’s and Star Wars stuff of that nature typically have merchandise but I don’t see any collectibles for a comedy or a romantic comedy so horror is also great for that aspect as well. I love collecting horror memorabilia.
Primarily it’s nostalgia for me. From the scary music, the late nights watching scary movies on tv, to the horror monsters/villains that became part of my dna. After that (good horror) is like a roller coaster ride 🎢.

I love horror simply because it’s my escape. I can dive into a horror movie and it seems as if all my problems go away. And oddly it helps me deal with death as you Nick. Death is incomprehensible for me and when I face a death it doesn’t bother me as much.
i guess it's just an escape from reality for me, particularly anxiety and depression. my dad let me watch horror movies from a young age on, like the original Terminator, the Alien and Predator movies and Child's Play. to date i've collected most horror movies i've ever enjoyed and my mom doesn't understand why i love horror so much lol
Horror movies are just an escape from the horrors of reality. Religion, covid, politics, race riots, domestic terrorism, gender pronouns, widespread lockdowns, political correctness, cancel culture….these things are fucking frightening.
The thing I love about Horror movies as an adult is how powerful they can be when enough talent is involved. Suddenly you're unsure if you should turn off the lights, or you're worried about having a nightmare. You kind of revert to being a kid again.
It was awesome to hear your also Christian as a fellow Christian at times it's hard to explain to people my love for the horror movies and listing to someone such as you who can describe why we enjoy them was pretty cool to hear
The vilifying of that which a person doesn't understand or enjoy is something many genre fans experience, however for me it taught me early on to respect and tolerate that which is not to my taste be it movies, music, gender, religion or even political ideas. Personally I can't stand the Terifier movies but I wouldn't criticise anyone for appreciating that franchise.
I love the creativity with the prosthetics and fake blood Efx the sculptures and molds the story the characters the art of Horror really speaks to me I've always loved the holiday of Halloween itself I love the costumes and creativity and just the fact of getting to be what you wanna be and not be judged for it

What film does is put a face and a name on this “fear of mortality” which you mentioned.
In the 1920s, I called death Nosferatu or the Phantom [of the opera]. In the 1930s, names and faces that we have assigned to the fear of death were Count Dracula, the Frankenstein monster, and Ardeth Bay (The Mummy). In the 1980s, we have assigned Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger as the names for death.
All throughout the years, we create new faces and names which all represent the same psychological fear or perhaps curiosity of mortality. All of these characters are really just a newly designed grim reaper when you think about it.

In the early 1990s, I had a collection of WWF, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and Ghostbusters action figures. A movie about a kid’s favorite toy coming to life, killing people around him, and then coming after him scares the holy hell out of me. It made me a horror fan. I have been ever since.
Back in Indiana we had Nightmare Theatre every Sat night hosted by the ghoulish Sammy Terry showing all the classic Universal horror and some stinkers (Dracula's Dog!). My parents would worry about me as a kid I would sit up until 4AM getting my weekly horror fix but I was hooked from birth I think lol. And I didn't grow up to be a serial killer, so mom was wrong.
One of my favorite discussions, I still get called a “psycho” because of the love I have for the genre 😂 but it’s like you said, I let it roll off my back. It’s cinema at the end of the day. Love what you do brother and are arguably the realest in the game! Go see The Substance if you can!!!
I like Michael Myers and Jason cuz they're awesome villians as well as John Kramer/Jigsaw he's super intelligent, and Pennywise the clown, he's a demonic space entity, horror villains intrigue me

It’s watching to face your fears directly over and over, until you overcome it and it’s no big deal anymore
