My grandmother was born in 1896 in Liverpool. Orphaned age 10 she was taken into the care of the Bluecoat School and orphanage before starting in service at a house called Clearwood in Mossley Hill. I adored my sweet Nanna who told me all she knew about the Salvation Army singing their songs & banging her handbag as a pretend tambourine!
Time goes in a circle somehow. In the late 1970s I was a social worker in Manchester Royal Infirmary on a rota to help A&E. There on a bed was a destitute gentleman, dressed in rags with fleas jumping all over him. No-one including me wanted to approach too close to him But I knew a hostel that would take him & care for him. The Salvation Army.
I rang & without hesitation a caring voice told me send him down to them.
I bless the Salvation Army. They are truly Christian souls to care for such a man whom no one else wanted to touch. And I truly thank them x

God bless The Salvation Army. I am grateful to say I worked for them for 13 years at the Homeless Shelter but last year I was diagnosed with Leukemia and my doctors forced me to step down.

It is a great organization, they are careful how they spend their money. William Booth and his wife were the real thing, I was able to become a soldier- salvationist as well. Thank God for the opportunity.
