How do we approach the topic of Homosexuality with our family and friends? Fr. Mike Schmitz and Dr. Scott Hahn give thoughtful …

  1. Homosexuality is a natural variation of human sexuality. The church makes it all about sex; even saying saying, "same sex attracted" it breaks off someone's sexuality from the wholeness of who they are as a human. It is the way gay people love romantically, not just about sex. It would be the same as saying to a naturally left-handed person they are "left-hand attracted", or have left-handed urges. How mad would it be to say, " It's ok to be left-handed as long as you don't perform left-handed actions"? Thats how it sounds to me as a gay person.

  2. Oh FFS, you come at me and use lingo like "SSA" (a contrived term like you're trying to make it sound like a mental illness, I'm a psych student) or a "lifestyle" (yachting in the summer is a lifestyle, ya'll are just trying to create the illusion if choice), I'd laugh you off.

  3. Father Schmitz is great. I loved his interview with Megyn Kelly. Here again he shines. Great compassion. Great willingness to talk openly about the difficult issues of our time. What a beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful person. A great voice for our culture and our time.

  4. There’s no such thing as sin. It’s a man made concept meant to scare people into joining a religion. It’s sad that people fall for this scam in 2022. It’s like snake oil salesmanship at its worst. They try to convince you that you have an illness (sinner) so they can sell you their cure (salvation). Are people really this dumb and gullible? There aren’t two groups of Christians who agree about what constitutes a sin.

  5. The bible teaches that all sexual relationships out side of marriage is sin. The bible teaches marriage as between a man and women, like Adam and Eve. If you feel like you can't live that life than you need to stay single. It is OK to have relationships that don't cause you to sin. Yet, you must accept this is your cross to bear.

  6. You can be gay and lesbian and a Christian. God shows no partiality. He doesn't have special rules for gay and lesbians that he doesn't have for straight people. The church interpretation of scripture is nothing more than cultural prejudice read into the text. The church has been wrong about many issues since its beginnings. This is no different, despite what men will tell you. A religious system, masquerading as the Gospel.

  7. So it doesn't matter what I think of, only what I do or act on? I can be a raging homosexual with only carnal thoughts but if I abstain or marry a woman and have some children I am safe with God? Wow.

  8. Obviously one doesn't choose sexual orientation. Does anyone believe God holds back his love as he awaits that choice? Of course not. Homophobia is bigotry, cloaked by a selective reading of scripture, and God is not amused. Love all, judge none.

  9. I don't know about you, but I've always thought that sensuality, love and affection between men was completely natural and normal. Following a recent revelation, I'm absolutely sure that Jesus too was gay – the one that Jesus loved in the garden of Gethsemane and the young man running away naked and all that. The absolute bottom line for my gay and bisexual readers has to be that you have complete freedom of thought and freedom of conscience to make up your own mind on these issues and so don't be led astray by homophobic priests, clergy, ministers, pastors and all the rest of it! Your relationship with God and the Divine is yours alone and so take it and enjoy it and develop it in your own way and leave the religious homophobes to stew in their own juice! They're not spiritual people anyway and they don't want to grow so just walk away with your spirit and your dignity intact and leave them exactly where they are!

  10. We are all SINNERS in Need of the Saviour
    Jesus Christ

    Romans 3:23-26
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
    Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

    Romans 3: 10-12
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

    The Gospel
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

    1 John 4:9-10
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Christ died (Shedd all his Blood) as a sinless man on the Cross for ALL humans as the final sacrifice. On the third day He Arose according to the scriptures defeating death. And now all who believe that will be saved.

Hell or Heaven is OUR CHOICE?
    Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

    Matthew 23:13
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

HELL IS A REAL LOCATION UNDER THE EARTH AND ALL NON CHRISTIANS WILL BE THERE AFTER DEATH

If you pray this prayer with faith you will be saved and have eternal life in Christ.

“I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died for my sins and rose three days later from the grave. Thank you for forgiving my sin on the cross. You alone Jesus is now why I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen.”

If you have prayed this with faith you are Forgiven and now in the body of Christ.
Welcome brother or sister into the Body.

    Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    GOD BLESS YOU

  11. 0:34

This is a failed endeavor. No one is saying or that sexuality is your identity. If you can not conceive of Queer people apart from their gender an sexuality then you have already failed to reach out to them.

Obviously sexuality is big deal but so is being a parent. You don't have to make being a parent your entire identity to realize that it affects your life and to know when people are trying to interfere.

    2:05

You can not reach out to Queer people if you assume that you know what they are experiencing. Recognizing commonality is all well and good until you use our shared humanity as a smokescreen for superimposing your own beliefs and expectations onto Queer people.

We have common problems sure but that doesn't mean you know what the problems are.

As indicated by the fact that you seem to think that homosexuality or is only a result of horniness.
    Which is false.

I shouldn't even have to say that.
Queer people are human beings, you can not reduce them to a carcatured idea of sex addiction.

    2:55

And this is what I'm talking about. Being gay is not the interchangeable equivalent of your penchant for lying or rage.
Reducing it to an "issue" is evidence that you have not been listening.

We're also well past the point where you can say that being Queer is a sin or "makes it harder to follow Jesus".
That is a claim that recquires justification.
You can not just handwave the massive theological debate that is happening worldwide and implicitly justify the years of ongoing violence and abuse.

Queer people want answers, and the church owes them that, and much more besides.

    4:10

I repeat no one has their entire identity revolving around their sexuality. This is simply a lie.

    5:31

Scripture specifically speaks against enforcing celibacy for those who are not already capable of it.
Treating your marital issues as if they are the same as mandatory celibcacy is just anothe instance of why you can not interpret other people's experiences through your own.

Saying "I know it's hard being celibate against your will but I can't cheat on my wife so we're really the same" isn't just gauche, it's cruel.

Also it's not even biblical, since we seem to have forgotten that that's the point.

    6:00

Romans 7:6 also specifically states that we are not under the law.
Which means that we are under no obligation to follow the prohibitions on certain types of male homoeroticism even if those translations were accurate.

    6:34

Speaking of self-worshiping, raising priests to a higher level of spirituality is prone to produce priests with exactly that mindset.

    8:39

Trying to sneak Queer people in through the backdoor of sainthood is not helpful or honest.

Any well-adjusted Queer person does not need to be validated by this, they already know that they are the spiritual equals of their Christians siblings. The fact that such validation even has the possibility of working is only evidence of how Queer people have been mistreated and neglected by the church.

It's also dishonest because many so-called Saints are hardly good examples. Thomas Moore burned his fellow Christians alive for the grand heresy of owning a Bible do you really expect us to believe that Queer people will be accepted as spiritual equals by the church any time soon when it still venerates a person who murdered people for the far more acceptable "sin" of wanting to read the Bible?

This is PR, this isn't the truth.
The Church does not view Queer people as spiritual equals even though it should.
Why else would their be such a hubub about a celibate gay priest?

If we're "all the same" why should it matter with which gender a priest has forsworn?

Because large swathes of the Catholic church reject Queerness and Queer people by default and often won't even answer why

Notice how none of this addresses any issues.
Save the very very basic, bare-bones idea that you should treat Queer people like people.

It perpetuates false and defamatory ideas about what Queer peopele are and believe. It tries to put sexuality in a separate category of human existence, it projects claims about Queer people without explanation and purports to want to join Queer and non-Queer people while really super-imposing it's own views.

If this was about treating Queer people the same or listening to them it would bear a stronger relationship to reality.

A llorar.

No. ¡Está dentro!

  13. Schmitz has denied that people can be "born gay", but on what can he base this other than his preference to believe it, in order to justify Catholic condescension to gays? The science suggests otherwise. The chances of being gay increase measurably with each older brother that you have, suggesting a role of prenatal conditions. AI computer software can detect gay males more reliably than humans, by analyzing microscopic details of facial features that would be indiscernable to the human eye. In animal experiments, sexual mounting behaviors have been reversed by administration of hormones. In contrast, what does religion have to offer other than ancient fables of a city that burned, and a claim without evidence that "God" was somehow responsible?

Does Schmitz really think it wise for a man who knows only same -sex attraction to try to marry a woman in spite of that fact, with likely result of something mutually unsatisfying? Or that "God's plan" for fertility is accomplished any better by a life of celibacy that is not one bit more reproductive?

When gays were being put to death in Nazis concentration camps, did the Catholic Church speak out for them? When gays were imprisoned and tortured under the Spanish Catholic dictator, Franco, did the Church intercede? When Mussolini exiled Italian gays to an island, did the Church protest? When the Catholic authoritarian, Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, pronounced that he would want a gay son dead, did the Church respond? When the Catholic dictator, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, pronounced that gays were less than pigs and dogs, and should be turned over to police, did the Church respond?

When the answer to all these is a resounding "No", the Catholic Church has a long-running, unpaid blood debt on its hands, much less any credibility to pontificate about the morality of homosexuality. We do not at this point really owe pleasantries or endless hand-holding of trying patiently to reason with deaf ears and closed minds.

  14. You mentioned having priests who speak the truth – they should be saying there is nothing wrong with being gay or the sexual expression of it, but its bad for business, as is birth control, premarital sex, abortion and women's rights… No wonder the church is dying – anything that does not change with time usually ends up going extinct.

  15. Your childhood upbringing shapes your character. Love is from God. We are all loved by the Lord. It is not my place to judge. God created all life. We as individuals tend to throw stones without considering our own failures and fallacies.

  16. He really wants to love people but he uses his thinking to rationalize the gender and sexually related oppositions to others of his church that mostly result sexisms stemming from the highly. misogynist military conquest oriented empire of Rome that first politicallized his religion. Just like Catholic marriages still have difficulty resulting sexisms. LGBTQ+ people aren't going to be able to healthfully marry sexisms that ultimately alienate them even if he false marriages them with the usthem thing. Same stuff as centuries old really. No the better vision on anything. The real questions and answers rest with the Mercy. Where and how that's missing. Follow that to its conclusion and you just won't be Catholic anymore, but you'll know your bible way better and life will be just so much easier on this topic because you will no logic believe homosexuality is a sin and that sexism absolutely most emphatically is a sin. In fact its what Roman's chapter one is really speaking against not being lgbtq+ which is physically manifested. If two gay men are having sex in the woods and there are no Catholics there to call it a sin, they are still f*cling in nature. Just saying. It's the nature of sexisms that is the lie and the illusion. Human beings don't have sexisms parts. In fact sexisms present themselves as a pathology/ a disease to their homeostatic function. It is impossible sexisms can be love. They lack adequate contact with human empathy and route thinking towards entertaining sociopath pattern behaviors. You can't think of someone as your own flesh and at the same lack equality in your thinking about them. That partner dance just sucks. Catholics will sure never can understand their connection with LGBTQ people if they don't even connect with each other and thus and equally themselves. Sexisms lack all necessary balance to can be faithful in love. They are simply not love. Including the sexism that are Roman Catholic doctrines/ their very standards for social governing. Even if this preist is nice enough to would marty his beliefs to LGBTQ people it's not a marriage would work out cause its just not genuinely a marriage of love. It's still just a marriage of LGBTQ people to an oppression

  17. I'm confused. I greatly respect both of these men but they seem to be altering Church teaching so they can be more welcoming. Heterosexual attraction is not disordered in the same way that SSA is. We have to understand that despite what the current APA guidelines say, SSA is a mental and emotional pathology. Love them? Of course! But, just like other people with mental illnesses, we don't ordain them. Nor should they teach or work in Parishes or schools. I fear that I see the Church buying in to the "alternate lifestyle" idea that wants to normalize homosexuality.

  18. Being gay is not a sin, and God loves you for who you are, baby.

"Whether life's disabilities left you outcast, bullied, or teased.
    Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause, baby, you were born this way
No matter gay, straight, or bi', lesbian, transgender life
I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive". 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  19. I unfortunately acted in homosexuality and when I asked about it , it was encouraged. And I’m not a catholic but I am a Christian and i felt God told me I should be there ( at a parade) and I shouldn’t be in the relationship I was in at the time but I also saw the preachers on the soap boxes yelling at people which 1. I thought there has to be a better way to reach out but also 2. I went to church (which didn’t speak on same sex) at one point and it’s not to late to go back but the point is I left that and got back with my girlfriend whom I had premarital sex with and I knew I loved her and we got married and I asked for forgiveness and I know I can’t out sin God I know Jesus took on the Sin on the world and I Can’t out sin him. And I know that Paul says that just as people were homosexual’s that they were washed by the blood of Christ and baptized and are a new person but I guess I’m asking for reassurance (not saying I doubt God or Jesus’ sacrifice) but I know the devil will get in your head and cause doubt and I remind myself of what Paul said and I remind myself I can’t out sin God but I’d like to ask am I Forgiven for my past mistakes like same sex relations?
