I think that Louis's bass drum sound comes from Jazz tuning, every drummers from the Motown played with that sound, JB's drummer too, and way before Keith Carlock, with his open tuning Gary Novak did some great damage with Chick Corea.
PS : and yeah "Red Hat", I really understand your admiration for Louis, but sometimes often you tend to put him in a situation where, as great musician he is, he knows he's not, because there is ALWAYS faster gun in the west side, as you know already there is some REALLY savage insane drummers out there, and some of them are great musicians too, not just AWESOME drummers.
Watching these videos make me think “I wonder if the things they are saying is just overthought and the musicians are just playing how they play and don’t think into it”
Some great drummers, but Dennis is still the man. No one makes me fear for the drum set, like Dennis Chambers does. He beats the living shit out of them. 😉
Can someone tell Louis it might be worth getting checked for Ehlers Danlos syndrome? Just on the off chance he has it and then accidentally permanently trashes his body like most of us do before we figure it out. Anyone with that body shape, hand shape, and the physical difficulties he describes, especially along with the ability to hyperfocus should get checked out. Even the dimples on his face and the shape of his brow, large Adam's apple, long thin face- that's such a distinctive EDS phenotype. See a specialist, not a general rheumatologist- they're mostly clueless about EDS.
Genuinely. I'm always happy to learn watching him, & as a guy who doesn't really emote in the MVs I've seen, his face truly lights up whenever he talks about anything related to drums & it's a beautiful thing to see

Y’all should bring more drummers but also bring a drummer to ask questions and discuss as well. Drumming is so different than any other instrument, it would really help to have drummers ask drummer questions.
@25:13 Regarding how stiff & still Louis Cole looks when he's playing — I remember being actually surprised how loose and lively he was as a person when I saw him live. All his videos and lyrics gave me the impression of someone who was a little stiff, stilted, and ironically distant. A robot whose prime directive was the funk. But as this vid shows, he's much looser in person.

I was hoping to see him in Vancouver in June but it's a 10 hour drive and I have work on those days.
